Beginner's Links
When you've just started playing Core War, you'll probably need some software and some help: check these sites out for the best of it.
- You'll need to download pMARS from somewhere: the best places
are Planar's mirror of the FTP site
(if you're on the Eastern side of the Atlantic) or the koth.org mirror
if you're on the Western side. If you're a DOS user, you'll probably
want pmars08.zip whilst Unix users will want
pmars08s.tar.gz. Win95 users may want to get the copy from
Nándor Sieben's Home Page
which runs with graphics under Win95.
- Steve Bailey's Guide for Beginners:
a very good introduction to the basic concepts of Core War.
- Ilmari Karonen's
Beginners' Guide to Redcode
is another (more recent) introduction.
- The first issues of
Core Warrior
are the best way to get familiar with the standard warrior types.
